Overwatch got a massive new patch today and it added a new map for everyone, Junkertown, and also introduced a series of character balance changes. That’s not all, though, as the patch also made a pretty significant change on Xbox One specifically. Players who have bad reputations on Xbox Live, those designated as “Avoid Me,” will have their in-game voice chat disabled.

Recently DeeJ, the Community Manager over at Bungie, developers of Destiny , informed everyone the wait is almost over for the much-requested chat feature for matchmaking. Rolling out with update 1. Bungie Design Lead M. Chung explains, “We believe that requiring players to opt-in to chat leads to more friendly environments. What this update means for players is the chance to test out this new chat feature with its two different options.
The first option is Fireteam Chat and will be signified by the speaker icon in game. This option has been available since launch and allows players to speak to the Guardians within their pre-formed parties. It also includes players that join in orbit before a match is started. The second option is Team Chat, signified by a megaphone icon, and will only be available after the update.
This chat requires that you join a new channel that will provide for Team Chat. This chat is all encompassing and will allow you to chat with Guardians not only from your Fireteam, but also anyone you meat throughout Matchmaking. Of course, the Guardians on your Fireteam have to opt-in to the chat just as you had to, otherwise they will not be able to join.
There would probably need to be some clever UI trick to alert you of who can hear you , or it could still be frustrating. Yeah, I think this is one of those hidden things that secretly makes the game so much better. I interact and work with strangers all the time in Destiny in those public events.

Welcome to the second installment of our Game In Progress review for Destiny 2. The sprawling, six-player levels are universally held as the most daring, triumphant game design in the series, odysseys of expressive architecture filled with secrets, puzzles, risks, and awe-inspiring spectacle. The stereotype of gamer toxicity has never been arguable; just look at the ease with which Pewdiepie shouted the N-word on camera recently.
The history of online games has been one of rolling back social interactions. In early Halo games, for example, you could hear every word that every other player said. Over time, this turned to selective voice chat, then opt-in voice, then carefully created emotes. Today, you generally play video games online not with people but with mute avatars pantomiming various pre-approved memes and dances.
Still, none of these smoothing tactics would work for the dense, day-long raids, which require a full team no less than six! And so rather than attempt to fix the problem, Bungie said: You figure it out. I never did, despite always soaring up to the appropriate light level to do so.

Apex Legends , Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment’s new free-to-play battle royale game, does a lot of things right, but the Apex Legends ping system for communication may well be its crowning achievement. In order to perfect this system, Respawn had to enforce some strange playtesting restrictions, as the studio recently revealed on Twitter.
Fun fact: We playtested for a month with voice comms off and fake names to simulate playing with random people, and that allowed us to feel things out in an authentic way. Awesome to see folks using and enjoying Smart Comms!

In two days, you’ll have a chance to play Splatoon 2 for yourself. Caty has already reviewed the game for USgamer and found it amazingly fun and charming , even if it’s a bit familiar. Of course, part of the inking fun is being able to play with your friends. Splatoon 2’s release also doubles as the first test of Nintendo Switch Online , a new service that forms the backbone for online gaming on the Switch.
Until then, it’s completely free, giving Nintendo a chance to work out the kinks. Let’s start with Splatoon 2 itself. There is seemingly no way to group up with friends and then head into online matchmaking in Regular or Ranked Battles. If one of your Switch friends is online and playing Splatoon 2, selecting their card in the game’s Friend section merely gives you the message “You can’t join that friend.
Instead, you have to wait until one of your friends enters online matchmaking, at which point their card gets the “Joinable” label, and then you can join their game.

decided to limit voice chat options in Destiny to Fireteams — which are by invite or, in the case of the instance-like Strikes, matchmaking.
Title sums it up, I’d like to get into Destiny 2 didn’t touch 1 but it seems like a lot of the fun is in running the strikes, etc. Is there still enjoyment in randomly joining groups with voice chat turned off? Do people generally get on with the combat roles they’re supposed to perform? You can enjoy it solo, but it won’t be the same game people have fallen in love with to the point of playing thousands of hours if you play without a group.
You can do most things solo or with randoms. Strikes are certainly fine with randoms given the fact that you need to or at least needed to in D1 grind them over and over for loot everyone gets real good at them to the point of almost doing them on autopilot.
